Bones is renewed for a ninth season. Fox announced the early pickup of their flagship drama Tuesday morning during the Television Critics Association press tour.
The shows renewal is contingent upon getting contract renewals for Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz. When asked earlier in the year about a ninth season, in a tweet, Boreanaz stated anything could happen. Showrunner Hart Hanson is confident their negotiations will lead to an agreement.
“After more than 150 episodes, Bones continues to be one of television’s most dynamic and consistent dramas,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, at Fox. “We at Fox, along with millions of zealous fans, look forward to seeing where the incredible creative team takes the series next season.”
I think it ok now to say that Bones is renewed for Season 9. That makes it the longest running show in history – that depends on bones.
Bones Season 8 will premiere on Sky Living in the UK Wednesday 9th January at 9pm with Episode 1 “The Future In The Past.”
The seventh season concluded with genius Christopher Pelant using his technical savvy to frame Brennan for murder. Now, the forensic scientist-turned-fugitive is on the run with baby Christine and dad Max, while Booth feels the full force of the FBI back in Washington DC.
We’ve know for a while Bones will be filming several bonus episodes for the current season. At San Diego Comic Con, it was revealed on of those episodes will involve ballroom dancing. TVLine has learned the episode will include the recent winners of So You Think You Can Dance, Eliana Girard and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp. But they won’t be the only familar faces. Mary Murphy will pull her hot tamale train onto the set along with Tyce Diorio as judges in the episode.
This isn’t the first time Bones has included a So You Think You Can Dance performer. In Bones Season 6 Episode 5 “The Bones That Weren’t”, all-star tWitch played a street dancer named Russell who becomes a murder suspect that Brennan and Booth must investigate.
Following her father Max’s advice, Brennan is one the run, framed by a killer for a murder she didn’t commit. She’s been gone for three months, leaving clues for Booth and the Jeffersonian team to clear her name. The only way to prove her innocence is for the whole team to break the rules. Will Seeley find them before FBI Special Agent Hayes Flynn does or will Pelant out smart all of them?
Be sure to watch as Bones begins it season 8 journey on September 17.
